coil shouldn't have anything to do with the fuel pump working.
Are you sure the coil is good. I assume you have no spark at the plugs either.

i would check the wiring. Its possible the wires got hooked up backwards or one is shorted to ground...
Or maybe the resistor is making too much resistance (just gone bad)...

it runs!!!!!! wired it and now it runs one of the wires in the run psoition was grounding the coil. so the resistor got bypassed and now it just shut off!! and now there is no spark

What is the resitance in ohms, on a stock ballast resistor? My MSD set says it need a .08.

Thanks in advance

I have somewhat of a similar problem. I can never remember what I did before - but it always seems like I am replacing the condenser on it.

Now I get no spark at the coil, and it's my daily driver.

Can someone tell what is the actual, working point gap on a 79? I have tried the "range" given by the Haynes manual, runs good, but I still have a slight hesitation upon acceleration, and the tach goes kinda wiggy at around 4000 rpms, and occaisonaly does the "diesel" sputter at shutdown.

Only thing I didn't mess with much is dwell, I don't have a meter, so I jsut gapped it according to the manual.

The haynes book should be correct. My series 8 manual says .016"-.020".

Idealy points should be .018 (.016-.020). Dwell should be 52 (47-57).
