I have a turbo 350 trans in my 77' chevy luv. What would be a good rear end to put it for not alot of money? It currently has the stock rear end

Most get a rear end out of a S-10. They are easy to come by and gears are available and a direct bolt in. If you have decent H.P. this may not be the way to go. I run a 9 inch and some believe in Dana's. The S-10 rear will hold up fine on the street with a mild small block. If you do run slicks or if the truck hooks up real well you may want to look into something else. Roadshow Bob has the S-10 rear end out of my stock V-8 Luv conversion and would be happy to sell it, it worked great for me and is quiet. I replaced it for a 9 inch when I back halved my LUV.

I run a ford 9 inch in mine just because mine is purely for racing. Luvrv8 is right in what he said about the s10 rear. But if you have a mild motor now and plan to go bigger later, i would go ahead and find a nice for rear to save the hassle and cost later down the road

With the Racing associated with your forum name, I would suggest going straight to a Ford 9" assy with a high spline count.
An S-10 will get you on the road better that a stock axle, but if you plan to throw some power out, sticky tires on a sticky track will kill an S-10 axle.

Blue Meanie Said It Pretty Good.

S-10 Rear End If You Going To Run A Stock-Mild V8. As Long Your Not Hooking Up Hard.

Anything Bigger/Stronger You Will Need To Go With Either A Chevy 12 Bolt, Ford 9", or A Dana

I Have A Ford 9" Under My Mikado.

I have heard the Dana 44 out of the old mail jeep fits well . I run a narrowed 9" from a 79 bronco with replined axles and redrilled truck drums .

It's because 9" assy's are the bomb! It's strong, easiest to narrow out of all production assy's, easiest to do a gear change of all production assy's (if you have a spare 3rd member). No stupid c-clips. Everone builds replacement parts and kits for them. Once you get one under the vehicle, you'll never think of it again.

I think i'll send Currie and Strange a Christmas card this year.

so sounds like 9' will be a good choice and a cheap one. i'll be running street and strip so it sounds like that will work good. I have the stock end at 4:10 gear ratio so it likes to move quick! 8)

Now the phrase "cheap" is in relation to other axle assy's. Building a replacement rear end can cost more that a motor build. Sometimes someone can find a differential for a few hundred bucks or less, get it all cut down to size for a few hundred (if they know the right people) and then you'll need a driveshaft (up to 350 for a good one with a warranty). If you have connections in the hot rod crowd, you can pull it all off for as little as 500 bucks. Going retail for a complete running setup can put you over 2000 dollars easy. Getting a custom axle assy isn't cheap but working a Ford 9" to fit is the best bang for the buck.

I Scored My Rear End For $50. But I Normally Send My Rear Ends To A Guy Here In Town He Norm Will Cut Everything Down Housing, Axels, And Make Sure Everything Is True For $100-400 Depending on How Busy He Is. I Have Bought Whole Rear Ends For Dirt Cheap Before. He Is Also The One Who Builds My Drive Shafts He Normally Will Knock One Out From Scratch For $50-100 Again Depending On How Much Time He Has. He Does Really Great Work. And Anyone Around The North Georgia Location I Would Suggest To Go To Him. He Probably Wont Give The Same Prices Due To He Has Been Friends of Our Family His Whole Life, and In Pedicular Really Close Friends With My Older Brother. So I Sometimes Can Get A Home Boy Hook Up.

That's what i mean by being connected.
I was having a hell of a time when i recently reworked my Ford 9". But after asking the some of the parts counter guys on who has a solid reputation with Ford 9's, they referred me to a fella that hooked me up good. He showed me how really screwed up my axle housing was and offered me a stronger replacement housing. Either shell out some money to fix the problems of the old one, or spend the same amount and get a better housing. The labor was cheaper to build a replacement that to work over the old one.
So now my setup is running at 100% of its capability. And i got a good connection to a machinist gearhead.

Nothing like having guru buddies my rear end setup was free too unless you count the cost of beer for two weeks for one worker and three supervisors
