its the same axle u had before, just shorter. strength is the same. I ran some stock 9" axles cut and resplined (28 spline) for years with 10.5" slicks 3.70 or 4.30 gears, posi, mini-spools, 4500 stall nitrous launches... never broke one. never even broke the stock 1/2-20 wheel studs in them either. I only changed it out because the local track made me. I still run the axles in another street rear end. These days anymore for the amount of $ u spend having them narrowed and resplined you can get a nice set of custom alloy axles for just a little bit more and have piece of mind.

Series 9 (1979) is 190 lb-ft...

I wasn't able to get it free with any tool I had at home and ended up paying a shop to do the work on mine...

Moser would have advised you of any potential problems with your original axles. If they questioned anything, they would have tried to talk you out of using them in favor of one of their sets.

Well the axles came with a sticker on them that said not responcible for damage . The axle place tried to talk me into summers bros. I personally don't think it will hook up . to much power and not enough tire. I will do my best to drive around this . Hpoe the track is preped. I'm ready to make a pass . I made 98 last year and have not made 1 this year. Even got kicked off for not having long pants in the powerstroke .

They were reworked to your specs so if it breaks, it's on you. They didn't have the housing to verify axle lengths. Just make sure that the axle ends dont press against the carrier pin. The splines will line up well before the bearing meets the housing. I had to get one of my axles turned down because it was binding on the carrier pin.

If the bearing bottoms out in to the axle housing and the axle doesn't bind up when you rotate it (after you tighten down the retainer bolts), it should be just fine.

Summers Bros. is still in business,
a HUGE shop of machines I was envious of...they can do that work, but I do not know that they have the desire to do one off work anymore.
I had them repair a 427 12-Bolt rear axle I have and they only did it because I flashed BIG money at them.
They do great work when they want to;
new management and all, but I think they are only interested in full blown race axle work!
Still a worthy axle shop!

I had my first set of axles resplined by Summers Bros.

They lasted about a month.

what do you think went wrong? Summers Bros has a good name in the axle business.

I had mine done by MIT here it town who i think actually sent them up to Currie. they did the pair for $150 and I have seriously abused the hell out of them since 1994 and they are still alive and kicking.

These days anymore, for a few extra bucks I would just pick up a set of alloy aftermarket axles.

BTW Summers Bros makes the BEST gear drives around too...

What went wrong?

Well, the way they explained it to me was that in order to cut off as much as I need to cut off, I would have to have them re-heat-treated. And after they broke they just said, ya, re-heat-treating usually doesn't work.

Not trying to trash Summers Bros, since I've been running a set of their drag axles on the street for about, what, 15 years now? Although they did a shitty job shortening my 9" housing.

Currie does excellent work too. I've used them a couple times and never been disappointed. If I had to do it over I'd just get everything from Currie next time.

I was also told about the lack of heat treating with the respline . Just bought a pair of 26" Hoosier slicks , can't wait to stress test the whole combo.
