I started to swap to the electronic ignition today. I marked my advance and rotor positions and yanked my old Opel/Isuzu distributor out. I stabbed the new one in and the only way to get it in is with the rotor 180 degrees from where to old one was. I removed my old coil and bracket and bolted the newer one (external module mounted on it) in. The instructions i got with mine said to use the positive from the ballast resistor to positive on the coil. Resisitor bypass wire taped off, plug in the harness to the coil and the shieled wire to ground. My problem is this, there were three black wires with red stripes and one went to either end of the resistor and one to the positive onthe coil, in addition to the black/yellowish striped wire that went to the negative coil. Which one do I use on the positive side of the coil? It's a 1980.

So it should have the internal module instead of the one the sits on the coil. Mine is from an 85 trooper and is all self-contained

Well I got it running today with some help from the JoeIsuzu's forums ... although apparently my old Opel/Isuzu distributor was 180 out ????

Is this one similar to the one you sold me? I'm thinking about installing that thing finally...

The one you have is from an 81/82 LUV.. mine is from an 81 I-Mark. I believe they are the same.

Yep..I'm running an Imark ignition module and Accel custom coil with a truck distributor and it runs excellent.

It sure has made a difference in power and drivability.

Also...check your vacuum advance diaphram because the older japanese ones are notorious for leaking and they are cheap and can easily be bought at just about any parts store.
