To do it right is pretty involved. You want to get boots that are solid, not the split kind. Those split ones are pretty much junk, might as well just not replace them if that is what you want to use. The problem is that the non-split boots require you to take everything apart, starting at the hub, then the spindle, the ball joints, etc etc. You have to get down to just the shafts in order to slide the boot on.
It can also be tricky getting the bands tight and secure on the ends of the boots. There is a tool you can get for putting them on there nice and tight, but it can be done with just hand tools if you work at it.
