Anybody know how to remove very old, very bad, water spots from the windows and mirrors?
I've tried CLR, vinegar, lacquer thinner. Any other ideas?

Rubbing compound usually does the trick. Then you'll need to get rid of the flim left over with regular window cleaner.

take coke'a'cola and pour it down the window, or rub it on w/ a cloth on a mirror, let it get just a little tacky, then use a scotch brite pad, the guy that did my windsheild on my luv did it to my old one, cleaned up good...

I have that problem as well. I have been told costic acid (pool cleaner) will work. My neighbor is a pool repair man so I will try this by the end of the week.

CLR should work eventually, or Lime-Away.

Maybe they will take a while. Try letting it soak?

Or try one of these other ideas...

at the shop we use a sponge and wheel acid, so i am sure any acid cleaner would work. we use wax or rubbing compount on light spots, the hard ones need scrubbing and acid

Scotch bright pad scratched my slider window. I'm using CLR straight and also using Eagle etching aluminum wheel cleaner ( LUVRV8, gee, why would I have a fresh bottle of that? :D ). It's basically acid and is helping. but spots are still there. Polishing compound didn't seem to work.

I wish the calcium on my teeth was this strong.

Sorry Ron, I thought everybody had a neighbor who builds and repairs pools.

About 20 years ago I was a pool cleaner for a summer in Sacramento.
My first job was in a pool store in Fullerton. And I grew up with a built in pool / spa in the back yard. But now days , I'll just have to go beg at the local pool store for a cup of acid. (Makes me sound like a junkie).

I got some pool acid and it didn't work. I tried vinegar and no go.

I think trying everything over and over has helped a little, but spots are still there. It has worked best for the aftermarket mirrors.

Coca Cola is what we found would work back in the days of my military service.
