Ok I have an 81 4x4 with the 1.8. I know I need the 32/36 but I belive I need the auto choke right?

Can a mech choke be made to work with my truck?

With my limited finances I do not want to make a mistake.

A manual choke will work, but you'll need to run a cable into the cab somewhere. The electric auto choke just makes it easier to drop on and run. Avoid the water activated choke unless you want to do a pretty intricate plumbing project.

Does "IT" have to be a dgev or will any electric choke work?
I have seen these on ebay.

Well I got a Weber 32/36 DGAV, I hope I can make it work.
If not then back on ebay it will go.
There were no DGEV's To be had for the money I had.

DGV, DGEV, DGAV are all the same carb body so it will fit. They are all basically a DGV. The different models might have an extra vac port here or there or different chokes but the base carb is the same. If its one of the three and has an electric choke, then its what you are looking for.
