is the coil supost to get hot when i try to start my truck

think about it, it has some where around 30,000+ volts running through it when the engine is running/starting. So yeah it is going to be a little warm when your trying to start the engine

Just warm, not hot, except from engine heat. If its hot in the shade with the hood open while the engine is running, the coil could be partially shorted, causing a larger current draw. This would possibly make the engine hard to start if not impossible at times.
