My Chevy LUV is 8 inches off the ground in the front and 9 in the rear. I like lowered trucks because you know when a truck is lowered by seeing it. I am going to lower it 2 inches in the front and 3 in the rear. I still need to get a pickup bed for my truck too. It is a longbed and it isn't easy to find a bed for a 1982 Chevy LUV or Isuzu PUP. Does anybody know anyone who may sell pickup beds for trucks and may have what I'm looking for?

If a rear end swap is nesecarry a s-10 rer is very easey to swap. As for amotor swap if you don't want to deal with av8 swap a 4.3 v6 is a good motor as it is very similar to a v8they are plentiful inexpesive and preformance parts are avail. and about 4 inches shorter so it shou fit fairly easey.

I have always thought of what to use to drop my truck with but I have made up my mind on what I want to use. I am going to buy Belltech Nitro Drop shocks. They sell two kinds of shocks, one with a single tube and one with a double tube. The price is $36.95 for single and $52.95 for double. I just hope when I buy the shocks it will be easy to lower my truck and not end up being a 2 day project. For you guys on the site that have lowered LUVs what did you use to drop your trucks?

When mine was "in the weeds" I just used 3" blocks for the back, and a big wrench to bring the tortion bars down in front till it sat on the rubber snubbers. Took me about two hours. :)

Shocks do not lower vehicles, they are there to keep the ride smooth. To lower a LUV pretty much the only easy way is to adjust the torsion bars. It will ride a lot rougher lowered (mine rides like a tank!!) and the shocks wont help much so don't waste your money on the Bell Techs, if they even make them for a LUV. These trucks are nothing like the newer coil spring suspension trucks of today. You can put a newer clip under the truck or air bag it (My plans) but I don't think you want to go through all that work.

They don't sell the shocks for Chevy LUVs but they sell them for 1983-1995 Isuzu PUPs. Since I have a 1982 Chevy LUV, which is the same truck as an 81-87 Isuzu PUP, then I think I have a good chance of lowering it with them. These shocks are drop shocks just not any other shock here. They sell them to lower a truck, so I figure they will work. I just learned about how the Chevy LUV has torsion bars because my dad told me, so maybe I could just buy shocks for the rear drop.

Just want to point out one thing I don't think you understand about shocks. A drop shock wil not lower a truck, no shock will (air shocks will raise but not lower the suspension)! A drop shock is for already lowered vehicles that have less suspension travel. They have a shorter stroke. If you tried to put them on a stock height vehicle, they will not reach top and bottom mounts. As the other way, if you put stock shocks on a greatly lowered vehicle the shocks will be constantly bottomed out and blow out within a very short time. If you crank your torsions first and then get the lowered shocks, it will ride a little better than just the stock shocks As for the rear, you will have to get lowering blocks and modify the alignment holes on the axle as they are 2 small for the blocks.

I bought 3" lowering blocks for the rear at Advance Auto Parts about 2 weeks ago and my dad and I are going to put it on this weekend. Since most of you guys said lower the front by messing with the torsion bars then that is what I might do. I might want to buy 2" lowering springs for the front. Does anyone know where they may sell lowering springs for Chevy LUVs or Isuzu PUPs?

the torsion bars are your springs. U dont have coils unless somebody else has modified it.

CRAWL UNDER YOUR TRUCK YOU WILL SEE A LONG BAR THAT RUNS FROM YOUR YOUR FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARM TO YOUR TRANS CROSSMEMBER. ON THE BOTTOM OF THE CROSSMEMBER YOU WILL SEE A LONG BOLT ONE PER SIDE. YOU CAN TURN THAT BOLT TO RAISE OR LOWER THE TRUCK.KEEP TRACK OF HOW MANY TURNS YOU TAKE OUT & USE THE SAME AMOUNT FOR THE OTHER SIDE. SPRAY SOME PENETRATING OIL ON THEM FIRST IT COULD MAKE ADJUSTING A LITTLE EASIER. TERRY

Estimating, how long will it take to lower the front? I'm just wondering how long it would take since some of you guys went through it already on your trucks. I also wanted to know what is the maximum height you can drop the torsion bars? I'll be lowering mine just 2 inches and I already put the 3" inch lowering blocks on the back, it's crazy how low I have it in the back cause the front isn't lowered yet.

It's a piece of cake. I just adjusted mine a couple weeks ago. I took off the front bumper which actually raised the front of the truck 1/2 inch. So I crawled under it with a socket and a ratchet and gave each bolt about 2 turns.

Ben is right. I lowered my 79 Mikado ( Mick-aww-dough ) about 7 years ago with 2" blocks in the rear and adjusting the torsion bars to give the front a slight rake. I then went to the Kragen place and had the guy look up the specs for stock shocks ( they have the specs in the back of their books ). You can find the bolt-up in a shorter length. I run 225x60s in the back on 15x8 rims and 205x60s in the front on the same size rims. I had to roll the insides of the front fenders a bit, but they do clear.

i lowered mine in about 2 hours.i used the torsion bars and 2 inch lowering blocks for the back.she rides pretty good.but i suggest to get some good shocks.i also suggest to lower each torsion one turn at a time.turn one side turn the other side or just count your turns.the first time i didn't count my turns and it took me forever to get my truck level again.

Well you can take a look at mine in the projects gallery and see how low mine sits! it sits about 5 inches from the body...... the frame is about 3 inces off the ground and that being the reason why I have ripped the muffler off 3 times!!!! But what ever you doo make sure your exhaust is definitely tucked under nice and neat! lol

I haven't posted anything in awhile but i did lower my truck 2" in the front and 3" in the back. Its been lowered for awhile now, I'd say at least a month since I had it done. The only bad thing is when I lowered the back with 3" lowering blocks the drive shaft makes a sound because it is rubbing against something near the opening right at the end of the cab. I think my dad said it was a bearing or something and I would have to get a smaller one to stop the noise. Can anybody help me out with this problem?
