im curious...i have a 79' luv 4x4. im not a mechanic by any means and want to get it back on its feet with as little money as possible...should i have the 1.8 rebuilt or should i put a different motor in? and if different motor is the general concensus...which motor is a good, common one that i can throw in without having to change much else besides the tranny?

Rebuilding your engine will be your most cost effective method,swapping to a different motor can get costly and involved.

a rebuild would probobly be the cheapest road to go but you can swap in a nice small block or even a V6 without an extremely large amount of cost. But if you are goin bottom dollar, a rebuild would be the best option, unless you can find a 305 or somthing in a junkyard

Remember you loose your 4x4 with any other engine but luv or Izuzu 1.9.
Rebuilding luv engine is easy and not to expensive. There are also a lot of good used engines around. Iv'ed had my 80 4x4 for over 20 years and (luv) it.
