i was wondering if an s-10 rear end will hold up to 260-300 hp? and also what will the stock axels in a 76 hold up to? if stronger are needed what is out there and is it a direct drop in? thanks.......the motor will be a GM350 also i want to run a manual 4-5 speed if possible? what is a tranny that will work other than an automatic?

this is one of the most common questions in this section, and a search or a quick browse over the last few pages could have most likely answered this question for you.

i am sure that a s10 rear will do just fine, i hear of many people running them with trucks that pull great times at the strip, but i have no experience myself. and about the tranny, the most commonly used is a hydramatic 350, or a th400. but i guess you could go with a muncie 4 spd

There are a few people on this site who have ran s10 rears with a mild v8. The C-Clips are the problem. If you put too much power behind them, they come apart.

Michael Van Horn was running a stock rear with his.

I guess the stock luv rear is a little stronger than we thought. If he had put some slicks on it, he would have been in trouble.

a friend of mine is using an s10 rear in his luv. hes got a 430hp 327 in front of it too. hes been using slicks on it, but he doesnt hook up all the great still. the rear in showing alot of signs of a fatigue though. the power has flexed the ring gear enough that it has touched the cover on the back and put a nice grove in it. its also been welded twice. the welds that we did the first time got chewd up, so we welded it again. hes managed to pull a 12.6 second 1/4 with it though. i still think that the rearend has an 11 in it though.

hey just thought I would throw my 2 cents in the stock rear is pretty strong i ran the stock rear in my truck for one season (about 40 hard launches) i was running 6.80 consistent in the 1/8 (6.67) was the best run the stocker lasted longer than i thought but it did eventually break an axle but i have a dana in the works as long as you run street tires it would probably last a really long time

it will hold up fine for a while. I ran a stock 3.23 LS 10 bolt in my 4th gen LT1 Z28, 300 hp with a 150-200 shot and a stout shift kit , 2800 stall converter. it lived the whole time i owned the car with 2 years of subjecting it to severe duty (street racing every weekend on 26x10 slicks). A snappy shift kit is what will end it the fastest

and like luv junky says the stocker can take a beating too. I've never broke one with any of the mild motors i ran.
