I got myself another chevy truck, not a luv though. It's a '79 1/2 2wd. Decent looking truck. But I have a question. . .Guy I bought it from says it has a 350, but a guy from work said it's only a 305 and I don't know enough about sbc's to tell the difference. I think I'm going to like this truck.

Get the numbers off of the block and run them to be sure.
it may have come stock with something, then been swapped with something else.
never can tell unless you run the numbers....well im sure some of the more experienced people can tell the differance, but I would run the numbers.

Is there a difference in the firing order? And where on the block are the #'s?

All chevy small blocks have the same firing order.

the numbers should be beside the distributor on top of the engine.
look here http://www.mortec.com/location.htm
go here when you get your numbers http://www.mortec.com/castnum.htm

3970010 So unless the engine is 10 years older than the truck, I've got a 350.

From what I saw on Moser it would have to be a 350 unless it was made in 69, then it could be a 302 or 327. If you can find the block casting date that could clinch it, but odds are its a 350. Am I reading that right?

Yep, that's how I had it figured, being that the truck is a '79. . .minus ten years. . .='69. Cool thing is that it runs like glass. It has a Q-jet 4-bbl and a turbo 350 with 275/60r15 remington tires. I think the drive-train will still be going when the body rusts off, then I'll just find an old luv to put it in. For now though, it's my Purple People Eater.
