 Post subject: sputtering sound
PostPosted: Fri Sep 09, 2005 10:45 pm
I was driving in the freeway when then engine began to sputter and eventually died. I had it towed home where I changed the cap and roter, but it still ran really rough and acted out of time. I changed the plugs and wires and that seemed to do the trick, but I have a loud sputtering sound coming from the engine. The truck still goes pretty good but the sound is driving me nuts. Any suggestions?

Could be points. Seems like when they get bad they almost seem to do it all at once. It also could be timing.

Of course, can't rule out fuel problems. A little water in the gas would make it act like that. You may just need to run it, maybe add some gas dryer additive (99% Isopropyl rubbing alcohol works) and it could clear itself up. With fuel availability problems in recent weeks you might have gotten some from the bottom of a barrel somewhere.
