I was just wandering if I could put a Ford 9" in my '73 LUV without modifying anything. I was also wandering if the reason that my truck tops out at about 65 is my rear end. And what is a good gearing ratio to be used for street and strip use?

well to put the ford 9 in your truck your probably gonna have to narrow it. i know that your going to need new spring perches, and new axles.
as for you truck topping out at 65, yes that probably is your rearend gearing. im assuming that you have a TH350 and your rearend gears are probably 4.56 gears.
some good street and strip gears would probably be some 3.42 gears or 3.73 gears. id go with the 3.73s because you can still drive it around town without it being reved out, but youll still have some good take off at the track.

Also, the driveshaft will need to be longer. The stock axle pinion yoke sits farther forward than the Ford 9' assy so modifying the shaft you now have is out of the question. The Ford axle pads are a little wide to fit right. New 2" perches fit great. And be sure that your pinion angle is basicly the same as the motor/trans.
So you might as well go all out and either find a unit with traction loc or some kind of posi differential. These trucks are too light and with a standard axle creates easy wheel spin.
Believe us when we say that going with a new diff setup is well worth the time, effort and money.

or you could just swap out the center 4:56 chunk with a chunk that has some 3:73 gears in it.
that is what I did when I found out I had low gears.
of course I had a parts truck to get the chunk out of, but you may be able to find one somewhere.
