 Post subject: valve adjustment ?
PostPosted: Tue Jan 25, 2005 7:49 pm
i was tinkering around with stuff i wanted to get my truck running better last night and i was trying to adjust the valves and the haynes book says

#1 TDC you can set

cyl 1 int/exh
cyl 2 int
cyl exh

#4 TDC you can set the rest

and the book says for clearance .006 intake / .010 exhaust

so i did that

with the #1 at tdc and then jumped over to the next step getting

#4 tdc and when i turned the crank to that all the valves i had just adjusted were totally loose at those settings ?

i lined up the mark on the cam with the one on the head for tdc on #1 piston

so i dont know why they were so loose

any help would be great

thanks

Did you pull the distributor cap and make sure the rotor was pointing at #1 spark plug wire?

sure enough its 180 out on the distributor i checked the mark on the cam and the rotor was pointing on tdc on #4

then i adjusted them once again sure enough runs better

so that helped robert

so i got to pull the distributor this friday or so and get a power valve suggested from one of the fellow luv members from blowing it out when
backfired through carb
