The 383 and 200-4R are in the Luv, and I've made a trip to the drag strip.

383
10.8:1
TFS 215R heads - home ported - 301/236cfm
Comp 224/224 hyd. roller, 114LS, installed 110CL. (smooth idle)
RPM intake
HP950

74 Luv (3000+/-lbs w/driver)
200-4R
12" 2000 stall
307gears Dana44

Here's the bad part, its got 1 5/8" block huggers, full length headers would be nice.
From there I built a 3" X-pipe to 2 1/2" dynomax turbos with 2 1/2" tail pipes.
The cool thing is the 383 still sounds like a work truck with the turbo
mufflers, since it idles smooth/quiet!

Best pass was 11.66 @ 116.2
It’s a dog off the line with the 2000 stall & 307 gears, and in 3rd gear its not really
in the power band, as it crosses the line at 4800-4900rpm. I'm gonna put the lock up
switch on the 200-4R for the converter, and hope it picks up a bit. Plus the cool
weather is here now, so that should be worth something.

Thats pretty quick, but if you're already droping below your RPM range why would you want the converter to lock up. That would bring the RPM down further and slow you down.

I'd hit the (manual) lock-up switch at around 5500rpm, so the engine would
pull better in (powerband) 2nd gear, shift at 6500rpm, which the lockup should
keep the 383 in 2nd gear longer, so I would be farther down the track before hittin
3rd gear. I've talked to a few guys using the lockups and they say you can pick
up 2-3mph, but with 307 gears it may not do much... we'll see.
