Anybody got any ideas where to get the rubber boot that slips over the gear shift and attaches to the tranny hump part of the floor board? My parts source at the Chevy dealer says it's a discontinued part. I haven't been to the junkyard yet. Would one from a trooper maybe fit?

Sometimes if you look around (might take some looking) you can find a universal one thats almost identical. Like I said though, it might take some looking. I found most shifter boots I ever needed at Princess Auto, but I don't think you guys have that store in the US.

I think in 78 or 79 the shifter on LUVs changed a bit. My 77 has a thin shaft all the way down into the tranny, and my 79 has a short stubby shaft that goes into the tranny and a fatter shaft that hooks over it. Niether of them has a boot that quite matches my trooper, but the trooper boot would probably fit the later style LUV shifter ok.

I'd just start hitting the yards and see what you can find. Take a measure of the hole in the floor and look for something around the same size in whatever rig you can find. If you happen to spot a good one in a LUV, then great, but I bet there is something out there that would fit just as well.
