Autooptiks.com(i think) has composite headlight shells that will fit in the benzels of early and late model Luvs. I bought a set and rewired my truck with heavier gage wiring and relays. They take the H type bulbs that use the stock lamp connectors and they are really bright! You might want to look at them before you decide on what you want to do.

hella also has these lamps. I have them in my truck.
got them from http://catalog.com/susq/index.htm.

edited to say definitely if you go with a higher wattage to re-wire the headlights.
I have done this also.

hella makes a sealed beam replacement that uses H4 bulbs. fit's right in just like a regular headlight, but bulbs are much cheaper and brighter than stock

i think they go for around 70 bucks a set

yes, but you have to use larger wire for the headlights. it will fry the stock wiring.
