I wonder if anyone knows if a Pertronix electronic ingnition will work in a 1980 luv 4X4. I noticed they only offer it for up to 1975 trucks. What is the diff. if any between the distibutors. Does anyone know of an alternate electronic system I could put on my truck?

As far as I know, they make Ignitors for just about everything- I just ordered one for my '74- check out the Pertronix site. The guy I talked to didn't even seem to think I was weird for asking for LUV parts....

Hey there, I installed a Crane Cams XR3000 electronic ignition in my 79 4x4. I believe its got a Nippon Denso. It took me a little bit to figure it out since I had never done a swap out before but man... worth EVERY single penny!!! The thing fired up on me first try after I left it sitting for 4 months. Not sure about Petronix although I hear good things. If you want to go with a great system, look into the XR3000.

I found that Mallory makes a complete distributor for the Luv 1.8. It is under the name of Unilite distributors. Good luck.

Last time I checked, '79 was the last year. If you pull your distributor and send it to them, they'll make you a custom module.

I put a Mallory Unilite in my 1980. Costs just over $300, but I like the way it works. And no damn points.

i did the whole shabang whith new everything and just ran parts for an 81-81 luv. The results are awsome, more power better idle and better econimy. I dont know of all the changes from first to second gen. luvs but i know the third gen. luv igniton will go into a second gen easilly.
