Post subject: Trouble with front cover
PostPosted: Tue Feb 24, 2004 10:33 pm
Im having trouble getting the front cover off the engine. The engin is on the ground and all the bolts are loosened but it wont come off. Is it just stuck or did i miss some bolts?

if the crank pully and watter pump are off then it should come off. Try using gentle presure whith a pry bar. The bolts on it should be rather apperent, if its not realy clean try cleaning it well...

it won't come off unless the oil pan is off. you didn't say whether you had it off or not so i thought i'd mention it.

the oil pan needs to come off to get the timing cover off.

yea it has to come off too. replacing the timing chain is basically a complete tear down of the motor.

you shouldnt need to pull the head, just take off the rocker cover and undo the bolts to the timeing cover

it shouldnt matter, unless you have to lift the timing cover up to take it off

seems like i remember 2 bolts down kinda where the timing chain goes down into the head. you have to take the valve cover off to get to them but i think your right about the head.
