yo fellow luv owners. just paid $100 bucks for a 79 4wd. haven't got around to towing it home yet. hell i havent even seen it. the guy i bought it from said all it needs is the timing chain put on it. i've heard from some people that a luv is a pain in the ass to change the timing chain . any hints or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. i asked him if the chain broke while he was driving it cause i heard that would mess the valves up. he siad no , he just rebuilt the engine. i had a 72 luv with the dual point distributor, i wasnt too fond of that

Hey man Welcome to the Site! Putting the timing chain on a stock LUV engine is a bitch! The problem is you have to take basically the front of the engine off, just to get down to the lower part of the chain. Unless you have arms about an inch thick then you might be able to reach down from the top of the valve cover

Some hints would be to pull then engine out of the truck, its ten times easier to fix this way and only takes an hour or two if you know what your doing. Or, take the rad out, or your gonna end up scraping the back of your hand till its raw! Also take the hood off, for the four bolts it takes it makes things a lot easier.

unfortunitly pulling the engine isnt an option. i may yet find out why it was only $100

Well depending on the body and interior a 100$ might not be a bad deal, especially if you are considering doing the v8 swop in it. If you arent then well good luck. Hope it works out. Welcome to the site

I got a 73 LUV for $100 that needs to be de-rusted and have a valve job. The interior looks great, but that Lime Green has 2 go!

well since you cant pull the motor definetly pull the hood and rad. off. Good luck whith it, also be shure to change the tensioner while your in there.

1980 LUV 4x4, going under re-construction...

I think when I have the motor out of mine I am gonna change all the seals, and the timing chain. I don't want to have to do it when it is in there.
