 Post subject: 283 in the luv ?

got a running 283 for free today thinking it might go in the luv any feedback on what transmision to put in it that will run my 4x4 without a lot of fab the 283 is almost just a bolt in swap aside from tranny and the motor mounts but im no good when it comes to finding the right tranny

You will have to swap the entire tranny & t-case, including fabbing mounts. A th350 or 700r4 would probably be best tranny choice. Then there is the problem of clearing the front drive train with the oil pan. This is not a near bolt-in like a 2wd would be.

new idea i bouht a 65 chevy pickup rolling frame and plan on puting the 283 in it considering it had the same motor and mounting the luv cab and front clip on it and a flat bed with the original three speed or maybe even a five speen if i can get one cheap enough but i will have to build cab mouts but the good news is all mounts are bolted on for the 65 so they can be easily removed and so aslong as i dont have front end frame lenght and wheel well clearence issues t wont be a huge problem any ideas?

I think trying to mount the luv body to that full size frame will be a nightmare. You be better off buying the mounts and finding a 4wd transmission that will work in your truck.
