I ran a stock V8 once with the stock LUV 4.10 rear end gears,30" mudders TH350 trans. to answer your question... gas mileage = shitty

I would get a 700R4 overdrive trans and that will improve the mileage a LOT

its a help. im just wanting to know what to expect from these setups. the 700r4 sounds like good advice. my friends father had a 502 caddy hooked up to the 700r4 in a full size truck and had someone install a second overdrive (maybe they put in a lock on the torque converter) and he said it would idle while pulling a ski boat at 55. 8O just what i was told

most likely that was a Gear Vendor under/overdrive unit. those are nice pieces but they are $$$. a 700R4 would do the job just fine. 4th gear is .72:1 i believe.

My dad has a built 302 w/ a c-6 tranny and 35" tires. when we first did the engine, it had and oversized race cam in it, mpg=5-8. when we finished the engine he got a smaller cam, mpg=14-18. theres a major mpg difference just by changing the cam.
