What country are you in? There were 1988 Chevy LUV trucks in the U.S., but the LUV name continued to be used in some other countries. So, it would help to know what truck you have.

But in general, you should have a fill plug and a drain plug on your transmission. The drain plug is on the back, near the rear of the transmission. The fill plug should be on the passenger's side. Well, on LHD trucks, anyway. It's on the RIGHT side. With the truck on level ground (or level on a lift), remove the fill plug. If you can't touch the oil, it's too low. It should be filled until it's at the level of the fill hole. And it requires about the same weight of oil that your engine requires. Do NOT use 90w gear lube, the manual calls for motor oil.

Okay, so you don't have an '88. Your gallery says it's an '80. So my instructions above should be correct.

there were two bolts, i told him it was bolt #2 as in the picture, but for some reason he says it had to be bolt # 1. its bolt 2 right? do we remove that bolt and stick a finger to feel for fluid? and if it needs fluid, which bolt is it added in? thank you so very much. i never have done this.

The fill hole (and bolt) are on the SIDE of the transmission. It should be about halfway up. It is not in your photo at all.

I can't tell from the photos. Mine is not a 4x4, so it looks sorta different. But it looks like you've found it, so that's good.
