I got it started on Friday !! I spent the whole day wrenching on the 72 , I removed the smog pump and changed the oil , sucked out the old gas , new radiator fluid with new cap , and a new battery …
I turned the key and it turned over but wouldn’t stay fired …. I poured some fuel down into the carb and it fired right up / so I thought the fuel pump was toast ( it was ) so I updated it with a electronic EMPI fuel pump ( a VW part ) and tried to fire it up again ….. nothing , so I figured I had a few pieces of old crud blocking the fuel line . Which was the issue after I pulled the tank and looked inside I found the culprit ( rust everywhere ) I’m sending the tank out to get refurbished and I’m looking for a replacement gauge for the tank , I hope to have it running and driving in two weeks

Rear window seals are like hens teeth, if you find one buy it quick.

I received a call from a friend who knows a guy with a 74 Mikado and he wants 200.00 bucks for it today because it’s going to the scrap yard !! so I quickly jumped on it and called the guy , it has been sitting for 25 years in a field in front of his house . I ended up getting the Mikado tags off the bed side and also grabbed the front blinkers , but the big score was the six lug mag rims with original Western center caps on them . all for sixty bucks !! the rest of the truck was pretty bad , the hood was rusted out and had some major dents the rear window was in bad shape as well . the complete inside was all there but it was a home for some animals as well ( there was a pile of rabbit bones on the floor board ) I didn’t get the whole truck because there was no title to go with it , and I didn’t want to bring it to my house and deal with cutting it up the scrap it . but I’m happy with the find

Ok , I have some good news for the rear window seal blues / I just put a rear window from a 75 luv into my 72 along with a new VW window seal from a bus and it fit perfect ( with a little help from a string and some Dawn soap it went right in ) Also I bought a bed seal kit from a local shop and did the floor and fire wall , It came out great . almost there !!
