I ran the truck and checked the oil. Nice and clean. I suppose its still early to tell if I have a blown or cracked head gasket. The real test will be driving to school. Our speed limit is 70 mph, I think I should do fine :)

I'm ordering all the parts on the 25th. (Drum brakes, pads, (ioload?) peace, rear axle seals, master cylinder. They should be here by the 1st on pay day. Then, buying a set of tools and going to work.

Just a heads up for my fellow luv truckers, I am nearly mechanically inclined, but like my dad said "The best way to learn is find friends and a manual, take your time, and do it yourself".

I am having a little carbaration problem. Seems the idle is a bit too high. Gonna go out and tune it down a tad. Would anyone recomend i buy an after market carb? Like a Webber or something? Or should i stick with the "If its not broke don't fix it" policy? lol :)

If it is working, save your funds for something that is broke...

Thanks for the info. I had found from my research that luvs no matter what year, are prone to have dash damage of some sort. I have thoroughly looked over my 80 luv for general cosmetic damage. Somehow, the passenger mirror's plastic is melted lol.
Like i said, I have NO idea what I am doing when it comes to working on vehicles. But, I am a very fast learning and understand logic behind color coding wires and hoses with zip ties if you don't know where the go again.
I want to re-paint my luv. I have not looked around it to see how things unbolt and come apart. Here are some questions I have reguarding painting:

1. How difficult is it to pull the Bed and cab off?
2. Would it be recommended to pull the engine and components to paint the engine bay?
3. My goal is to have EVERYTHING I want painted sanded and primed in one 18 hour day.
4. I want all painting done in another 18 hour day. Is this possible to do a good prep and paint in 36 hours? Or am I rushing this a bit?

Thanks all for the input! Oh, and could someone link me on how I can post images of my luv? I would like you all to see my nice project! My first luv. 1980 2WD 1.8L Paid $650 for it :)

The bed is easy. It just has some bolts and the filler neck from the gas tank that needs to come off. Make sure you don't get any junk in your gas tank if you go to remove it the filler house. I'd clean that area first before taking the bed off.

I haven't taken my cab off, but I have put in body lift kit. You'll have to be careful with some wiring and the brake lines. I'm not sure if that's something you want tackle in that time frame, unless you have help. You could consider just removing the finders and the radiator, if you wanted to pain the firewall.

Well I done all my body work and paint in four full days... and believe me I had one damn straight truck when I purchased mine... I pulled the bed and all the front clip when I did my body work.... there is ten bolts that hold the bed to the frame... some are trickier than others to find and I believe they are all a 17mm.... impact is a live saver there... the front fenders and clip are pretty self explanatory.... as far as the motor and tranny removal I didnt do all that jazz... I am doing that this winter.... to do it all and do it right in a 18 hour day.... you best have a lot of experienced hands and several good body men with you... I wish you the best of luck though and look forward to pics
