I am on the lookout for a good rear end for my 77 luv v8 conversion I want to now which one can help me out better the s-10 10 bolt rear end or the camaro 12 bolt rear end ??
12 bolts are expesive due to being sought out by collectors with Camaro's plus you have to get it narrowed. 9" is more common if your going to narrow one down and more parts can be found used if your looking to save money. Rear disc brakes are cheaper due to Ford Motorsports Explorer brake package, suggested Retail:$359.00 link>
http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts/pa ... ield=11789The Ford 8.8 Mustang is very similar to 12 bolt and have heard of guys shortining and using that rear end in swaps, if you find an Explorer it's got the disc brakes on it all ready.
One of my V8 LUV's has a Toyota rearend. I'm swapping it out for a 9" and using the rear end on a regular Toyota pick up.
BTW this is from another forum-
Description:
Disc Brake Kit, Rear, Vented Rotors, Single Piston Calipers.
"You can stop shopping around for a rear disc brake kit for your late Ford's axle. These 5-lug rear truck axle conversion kits have everything you need--11 in. rotors with 5-hole 4.5 in. diameter bolt patterns, calipers, mounting brackets to fit Ford 8.8 in. truck/9 in. late Ford axles, big 3.15 in. bearings, and attaching hardware. Best of all, they're affordable, giving you unlimited braking performance on a limited budget!"
DOES NOT FIT MUSTANG 8.8" REAR END
