tuffLUV, i say fair enough. Point well made.
ret1614, I Think you may have been looking at a different thread.
The one i read was interesting and disturbing at the same time. I wont go into detail.
There was one post in the thread on the merits of different rounds with slug weight and composition vs grain for different purposes. It sort of baffled me a bit. It was like the guy was going to have various different round in his gun should various circumstances arise. Oh! penguin, oops crap thats round 3 in the mag, i need to find a rat and a Polar bear first but in reverse order.
Takes all sorts to make the world go round.
As inhospitable as Australia is it would be an easy country to invade. The population is sparse and spread out in comparison to most 1st world countries let alone 3rd world. The population is dissarmed and it would be very easy to cut supply lines and isolate the major citys from each other. The only thing you would need would be some presence on the sea and in the air, we do have a bit of a navy and some airforce. The army is all over seas in East Timor and Afganistan.
It would only take one over the top dictator type in a country to the north to get the ball rolling on that. Hope it never happens.

what ae you talking about bob sunshine is a LOVELY place

Its not the suburb, Hows it go, location! location! location!!!!
My neighbours are all factorys. There is a certain element of society that think it is all right to cruise around (industrial estates) at night and collect things. Sort of like finders keepers. The guy across the road was putting in a concrete apron from the fence line to the kerb, i sprung some guy in a van tying to steal the rebar they had laid down. It wasnt like a full sheet, it was just all offcuts and shit tied together. Chased him off with my shovel handle. They are always going to come back with their mates but they never do.
If i had a gun the neighbours wold be upset. They would not appreciate the bullet holes in their factorys from my warning shots. I have to shoot at something, i couldnt shoot in the air, especially not in a built up area.
Probably a good thing im not allowed to own a handgun. I would be in Jail for waving my gun too much.
Id love to get another rifle, nothing big, just a .22 hornet or soemthing maybe a bit bigger and then just a regular 22. I dont really want to go tarket shooting any more. Maybe an air rifle, i could do that here at home. I used to get my stepdads out and shoot shit with it when i got home from school if mum wasnt home when i was a teen. And a under and over shotgun all ways wanted one of them, the few times ive tried out skeet shooting ive kicked everyones arse.
So in answer to your question terrynnc, i will have a shovel handle

Im not afraid to use it either.
Ok enough crap out of me.
Bob.
