When installing a new/re man motor it is always wise to replace the clutch asy.and machine the fly wheel. It's allot easier to do it now then do it later and if the clutch was marginal to start with the rise in power from a new motor will take it out in a hurry.

Check you local auto parts store. I was able to buy a new clutch and reman fly wheel for surprisingly cheap. I don't remember how much, but I was impressed with the cost.

If you have the engine on the stand you can always take the clutch you have to the parts store and use a set of micrometers to measure the difference in thickness (wear) between it and a new one. If the wear is noticeable then I'd definitely replace it.... Clutch, pressure plate and release bearing. While you're there you might as well replace the front seal in the tranny. Definitely resurface or replace the flywheel if you replace the clutch.

If its a 2x4 My honest opinion is that if its working OK and looks OK put it back in and keep using it.

Its about a 2.5hr job to change the clutch in a 2x4 once its worn out.

Depends on cost, you guys in the US get pretty cheap parts so a new one is probably a good idea. Your looking at well over AU$100 here for a clutch.

Cheers, Bob.

It's really simple to measure it compared to a new one lying on the counter next to it and most parts stores will do it for you as long as you bring in the old one and they have the new one in stock. If I was this torn over "whether or not" I would probably replace it.

They sell clutch sets for every year except '72 at NAPA (or Kragen, O'Reilly, whatever). You can only have one size of clutch on a LUV, it's not like the bigger Chevys where there are 11 and 12 inch clutches.

What size??? The size that fits your flywheel.

If money is tight, your best bet would be to load up some pictures and/or take the clutch to someone who can inspect it for you. Get an idea on its condition.

No point spending $100 on a new when the one you have got could get you to the point where your have a $100 to spare.

Cheers, Bob.
