I'm not sure how bad you need the Luv as a daily driver right now but I would keep my eyes open every day on Craigslist, Carpart.com and check with local junk yards for a replacement tranny. You can also try to fix and then the leak try these additives....I had a $200 '89 Corsica once and the tranny started jumping from gear to gear and slipping so I dumped in a can of SEA FOAM transmission additive, ran it for a while and then added a bottle of LUCAS tranny additive. We drove it another 2 1/2 years until the engine broke a ring and scarred the block. I'm not sure how mechanically inclined you are but for the prices you mentioned I would try repairing it myself.
I don't know if any of this will help but after you fix the leak it will only cost a few bucks to try. I don't believe in alot of Additives but these are two that I have used in several instances and really do believe in. Good luck.
