I've read the ignition switches on these trucks can go bad, e.g.
viewtopic.php?f=24&t=18453&hilit=ignition+switchand that when you put in a stereo sometimes you can wire it directly to the battery to save the accessory line on the ignition switch from melting,
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=19405&hilit=ignition+switchmy question is, say I want to put in a fairly powerful CD/MP3 head unit, why not use the accessory wire to drive a relay which then brings power to the radio, which is on an inline fuse from the battery or fuse block? That way I can simply size the relay correctly to supply power to the head unit, and not burn out the ignition switch driving some 6x9s and a set of 4.5s. That's what I'm planning in the future for speakers.
Anybody done this?
