I want to paint my own wheels (white). Any suggestions on what kind of paint is the best. Also what do you suggest I use for the clear coat?

Thanks

Go to your parts store they will have paint specifically for wheels. I've never used it so I'm not familiar with any one brand over another.

Loves me some search function. Unfair though because I remember posting about this topic before.

I finally got the paint for my wheels from Summit Racing. It ended up being VHT Rally Silver.

You could find a place that does powder coat. That is how i usually end up doing mine. Though were I go, they only have basic colors (Black, silver, white, school bus yellow).

you will have to blast all the chrome off, then prime and paint them. You can't even rough up chrome and get paint to stick permanently.

Got that info from another forum, but that is what i was thinking also.

chrome wheels are different because paint wont adhere to them very well but there is some stuff call bulldog adhesive promoter that comes in a spray can that works great

I had ok luck painting a set of rusty chrome wheels even with tires on them I got all the rust and loose chrome off with a wire wheel and then roughed/scratched them up some with some garnet coated sand paper. (very hard abrasive paper) I didn't do anything too special, just primed and flat black but they turned out ok and have held up for over a year of Oregon liquid weather. I guess it depends on how good you expect them to turn out and how long you want them to last. I expect mine will look good for another year or so and then start to rust through again.

I pulled the bed off and plan to have is sandblasted when the weather permits. The guy told me he would make a deal on blasting the wheels while he is doing the bed. I was going to hand sand them or use a wire brush on my drill, but blasting sounds easier. I will post pics when it gets done. I plan to just rattle can the wheels after the sandblasting.
