I've got the weber on the offy and exhaust headers on my 79 4x4 mikado and love them to death. Sometimes when I turn it off the engine it kinda keeps going and doesn't shut off instantly. I don't know what you call it, but it doesn't seem like it should do that. Let me know what you guys think thanks.

Sounds like it is dieseling. Maybe turn the idle down a little, check the timing. Mine will now and then, but I found that if I let it idle for about 30 seconds, then shut it off it won't diesel.

When mine did that many moons ago, the timing was off.

I fixed my dieseling by adjusting the idle, both the idle speed and mixture. I think that mixture may be more important--I think some idle speeds are spec'd at 800 or 850 RPM, which seems high to me. I set idle by getting it as lean as possible-just enough to keep it running. The method in the shop manual or Chilton doesn't serve me very well either; the idle mixture screw, at least on my carb, doesn't do much for about 10 turns. That's too far out.

Thanks guys it's been a couple days since I could check this post. I'll take a look at the idle, I've got it kinda high at about 1000 just cuz I like it there. But you guys are probably right about the timing. I don't have the vacumn advance hooked up and the mechanic I talked to said I should probable advance it a little bit. But at the end of this month or next month I'm going to go with the electronic distributor and stuff. I'm just glad this isn't indicative of a larger problem. I'll definately check it out thanks guys!

This is not a fix, but a way to deal with it untill you fix it.

If it's a manual transmission, you could just put one foot on the brake and the other letting out the clutch (in gear) a little while you shut the eng. off. That will stop the eng. as soon as you turn the key.
