 Post subject: alternator questions???

kwik questions... if my truck is on and I remove the positive wire from the battery. should the truck stay on? if it doesn't, what can the problem be? just got the alternator checked and it's good.

That is a good question. I know on military HMMWVs if you take the pos away it will die but not real sure on the civilian trucks.

I would bet a wire issue some where in the harness. When you say it is charging, are you checking it at the battery with the battery hooked up?

I got the alternator checked at autozone... I'm just removing the positve wire from the battery and it turns off immediately. I've had this issue for a while now and trying to fix it. the gen light is on in the dash too.

Pulling the battery wire off the battery while it is running IS NOT a good way to test as you can get a voltage spike in the alt. and kill it or worse although rare the alt can short out the diodes and now you will have 120-140 ac volts in your hand.
The best way to check is with a volt meter.
