Bought a longblock and replaced the 4.3L in the 86 GMC 4x4. Decided against using the stock intake manifold & Rochester 4bbl carb. Instead used Edelbrock intake 2111 and carb 1404. Installed no emmissions on new engine. Got the engine to fire up and run but will not idle. Have to tap throttle in order to keep engine running. Has manual choke, if choke pulled will run at 2000 RPM give or take...

Could the fuel pressure be causing this problem? Is there any weird configuration on the fuel saddle fuel tanks that could be causing this problem?

Can drive the truck, at 2500 RPM and up seems to run OK. Need to idle so I can set the timing though.

Thanks for any help on this issue.

may have a vacuum leak. you can spray carb cleaner where the intake bolts to the heads and also around the base of the carb. but be carefull and it could catch fire!!

Removed intake manifold and add RTV silicone gasket maker to the gasket to insure a good seal. Still won't idle. Actually won't hold consistant RPM without moving throttle. Sometimes when trying to get it to run at low RPM it will surge up to 2000 RPM or more for no reason. Work in progress... :?:
