I am not sure on the answer to your question, I never had a 4X LUV, but was just curious if your avatar was your first car!!!! 8O :ebiggrin

I think he wants to know if the frames are the same between an 80 2X and a 79 4X4. He wants to put all the 4X4 stuff on the 2X frame because the 4X4 frame is junk.

I think they are different, but I don't know for sure. Someone else here will agree or confirm my ignorance.

4x4 and 2wd frames are different, the 2wd frame has a different lower control arm and shock arrangement than the 4x4. The 2wd frame has a under engine crossmember whereas the 4x4 uses the axel housing as crossmember, the 2wd frame does not have the mounting points needed for the axel housing.

Only if you want to convert to straight axles, like out if a Toyota, or Jeep or something like that. They call it SOA, sprine over axle. There is a lot of information on this. It takes quite a bit of work and some money too.

Good luck on your truck

Grandmaster of the "Shade Tree" way.. I can't see the yard for all the cars. Come on down and we will sit on the porch and watch the grass grow.

I agree with Papa G in the post above, the 2wd frame would make a good candidate for a solid axel conversion.
