Wow, that was really fast! Looks great, did you weld the fenders to core support?

Would you post some additional pics if you get time? I'd really like to see it with the hood open from the driver's seat. I'm curious what you did to remove the inner fenders also, especially the upper support section of the inner fenders. What did you use to cut out the fenderwells? How did you weld the hood to the fenders, what did you use to fill the gap? Would you post more photos of the hinge points? Are you going to use liftgate struts for the tilt? What have you decided to use for a latch? Are you still reading this? LOL, ok enough questions...

I've read the articles on this too, but I just don't have the skill or confidence to try it myself. I think Luvprojects has got the equipment to help make it happen for me, but I'd like to pick your brain as it comes together. For me, I think the cutting is the tricky part...

Thanks for posting this, I'm really excited to see one that wasn't done in 1974... :egeek

ok lots of questions lol
This is tricky for me to as im 20 but im ok at fabrication of about anything.. First i took off fenders hood and everything off fenderwells lights grille bumper etc.
Second i took the two bolts in front that hold core support down.
Third i took a sawsall with 6 inck blade and cut as close as posible to firewall starting in front of that metal lip that fender touches..
fourth took everything off and bolted fenders and hood back on. I lined bodylines up by eye.lol and tacked hood to fenders.
Fifth i cut where fenders bolt up all the way to core support then towards bottom so basically nothing but fenders hanging.
oh before i put fenders back on front end i cut them at body line.
six i sat everything back on truck to line everything up and it was good so i slid bolts back through front end so it didnt move.
seven i cut support out near bottom of core support and grided smooth. i took a piece of ten inch long sqare tubing and 2x2 square tabs . welded tabs to frame and tubing to core support. drilled and put bolts in.
eight took the two bolts back out of core support to test it out.
worked good even latches on hood still. I am going to use a gas shock so when i pull hood latch it just pops open. It is flemsy for now on fenders but im going to frame it up as lightly as possible. one note is to be careful when welding the hinge parts make sure you keep it lined up good. I had my buddy help me pick it up and down but i got it done in two afternoons. you really have to hack the front end up so dont attempt unless you really want to cut the heck out of everything!lol oh gap is not filled up on hood tacked a bolt underneath hood to fenders to keep bodylines straight

Sweet. Thanks! The pics appear black here on the forum, but when clicking on them I can save them. They are large, but for me, that's awesome.

Thanks for the step by step...

what are you planning on doing to fill the gap between the fenders and hood?
and also do anyone have any idea what would be a good replacement for the inner fenders? I was thinking of trailer fenders or something like that

I've been wondering about the same thing. How messy does the engine compartment get without the inner fenders? Are the fenders themselves coated with something inside? Do they need to be?

Where is the battery mounted? I know in Oregon, if I leave it in the original location without inner fenders, I'll have mud, water and all sorts of crap on top of the battery... 8O

I'm not sure I'll go with a tilt at this stage, but I am probably going to cut the inner fenders out, so this thread is very interesting. I'm considering leaving about 3 inches of the top inner fender rail (where the fender bolts to) so I can run my wiring, and maybe hang an inner fender later....

Thanks for sharing your work on this. :ebiggrin

I will take some better pics of the doghouse, my truck is a "work in progress" so please no jokes about it lol. I will take them of the hinge point, inner fender and bracing. It aint a show truck yet but give it time. Oh and remember I bought this truck this way so I have no idea what all was done to do it, I will let the pics tell you the story and I will try to answer any questions I can. MIKE

wow looks awesome. Nighttrains is different then mine. I did mine like off the forum on here with tabs on the front. looks like the core support legs that originally bolted the front down were chopped. They sit up so it doesnt bind and it can tilt. nice!

This may end up more of a project than I want to deal with,I really havent decided yet. I have got most all of the wiring out so I can put in a Painless Wiring harness with push button starting and switch panel for ignition, fan, fuel pump. To me this will be a nightmare, I hate wiring!!! Im having a guy build a new trans being the one in it has a crack in the bell housing and the guy I bought it off of gave me an extra 350 trans. I am having another guy stop by tonite to take measurments for tubbing the frame and shortening the 9" ford rear end I have and yet another guy stopped by last nite about painting it, said he would start at $1500.00 to sand and paint inside, outside and underside unless I wanted a bunch of custom stuff done to it. Like I said "Not sure I want to take this thing on or not" but there is so minimal rust on this thing (no holes just surface) I couldnt pass it up and the thing is so straight, It just needs to be freshened up with new paint and some interior stuff to be really nice. I will probably talk myself out of doing it at all, or I may have to trade for something else. MIKE
