Noticed water dripping between the cylinder wall and the #4 piston when I pulled thy pan off. When I rotated the piston up ( it was at the bottom of the stroke) water ran out the header. The heads were pressure checked before using ( no probs on the motor they were on) heads o-ringed, reciever grooved block, head studs sealed, solid copper head gaskets. I'm guessing a cracked cylinder.

Did the teardown, looks like the problem is in the head, which is an easy fix (aluminum). Everything else looked GOOD, so I hope to have it back together in a couple of weeks.

Too broke :( I've got 18 degree pistons in it with an eye towards upgrading in the future though. Got a spare set of SB 2 Yates C3's lying around in the round round cast offs Luvr8?

:? Well the head passed the pressure test and also wasn't warped. Block looks perfect. The saga continues.

It is amazing how long it takes for the local distributor to get a set of copper head gaskets, the &*$$*$#...

Well, I mostly finished the install, just need a distributor now to fire it up, but when I tried to push it out of the garage, the rear end kept locking up. I drove it in the garage...

Found the rear end problem, I have threaded wheel studs and one of them backed off when i installed the new tires and remounted the wheels.

Score! I was talking to a friend about the dizzy situation and he walked over to his parts stash in his shop and gave me a crank trigger setup. Now to figure out how to wire it...

Update! I finally have it mostly back together. All I need now is to dial in the crank trigger setup. The guy I got the stuff from wants me to bring it up to him to set it up, so I'm just waiting for his schedule to clear. I am adding a low mount alternator setup due to all the added electronics. I also need to replace the valve cover gaskets. I got some great deals from whitesperformance on this stuff and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again. I ordered Thursday afternoon and the stuff arrived Sat. via Fedex.

Image

The alt is a 100 amp 1 wire all new, not remanufactured and it's chrome, though I could care less, it just came that way for $65.00, the alt. bracket was $18.95.

Image

The gaskets are the reusable type and they came with a set of valvecover studs/nuts.
The total kit was $14.50!

mytmouz, since you've got a lot more experience with this sort of thing...what do you think of the quality for the price? Just curious, seems to me like they know what they are selling, and I don't get the 'china knockoff' vibe from them...

Now you can easily see why I have a $400 watch list...LOL... :ewink

I have no complaints about the parts I recieved. Some of the stuff has got to be China stuff, but the inspection process must be a little stricter than usual. I'll definitely use them again.
