Try spraying some electical contact cleaner at the points, letting them dry and fire it up. Or, some alcohol. You may have touched the points and gotten them oily. It doesnt take much to make 'em not fire. Make sure you didn't leave the capacitor unhooked (little metal cylinder in the distributor, with wire to it at one end). Also clean the contact tip of your rotor.

Wait, you say you HAVE spark to the plug? Did you try to loosen the distributor reset the timing for some reason? Sounds like maybe timing is now off.

Thats what I PM'd him. I told him to double check firing order, and asked if he pulled the distributor out or lifted it up at all. Maybe its 180 degrees off. If that all checks out, I said to check compression, although that seems unlikely since it ran before he touched the points.

I know this thread has been dead for awhile, but I was wondering how this turned out. Did you get the truck running good? Still having problems?

just a point to add, you can't get the distributor in 180 degrees off, the shaft will only fit the right way. It is really easy to get the cam timing 180 off tho, which gives the same result. So it is worth trying to swap the plug wires across from each other.

Yeah I wasn't positive about that. I've only torn into a LUV engine once and its been awhile. I was assuming it was like a SBC, where you could drop the distributor down in the wrong spot.

Thanks for the correction
