I'd be willin to bet this truck is still running the stock hatachi carb.In other words a piece of s#%t. I had the same problem with mine. I cleaned the carb, replaced the coil, the points, the plugs ,the plug wires, the fuel filters, the fuel pump, the fuel tank and it would run good for a while or sometimes run good for a whole day then run like crap run good then run like crap. I'm tellin you spend u 300 bucks and buy u a weber carb adapter kit (I got the 32/36 kit) . I may be wrong but I had the same problem and was about ready to quit until I got a weber and mine hasn't mist a lick since.

The Luv's stock Hitachi carb is a real POS and IMHO is one of the worst carbs ever made.

But it's definitely a lot cheaper to get a used weber and a complete rebuild kit off of ebay. A weber 32/36 is the easiest carb around to rebuild and most of them on ebay come with an adapter plate and a K&N air filter (complete with a re-usable filter ) included too. Often times you can get a good used one cheap that works just fine and doesn't even need anything.

Just do a search for weber carbs on ebay and you will see, but if there isn't one cheap enough, just keep checking back because there are tons of imports that use them and there are more added practically every single day.

(TIP: If you see a good cheap-priced one and want to get it...just choose to watch it untill about 15 or 20 minutes before the auction for it ends. Then be sure you keep refreshing the web-page, and then try your best to get in at the last few minutes and outbid everyone. If you bid right away on an item whose auction isn't ending for quite a while, you'll only drive the price up more and more for no good reason.)

You only need to use two real simple basic gaskets to bolt a weber on, and if you can't find them at your local auto parts store, or your carb doesn't come with any, they are very easy to make with a sheet of paper gasket material that you can buy at any auto parts store. Just lay the sheet over the bottom of your carb (or over your adapter plate) and tap around the ouside edges and the places where holes need to be in the gasket with the rounded end of a small ball-peen hammer untill your gasket is cut out.

As for throttle linkage, you can cannibalize your old carb's linkage and use it's parts to hook up a weber easily.

BTW...There is a free downloadable self-extracting zipped file that Ben has stored for everyone here on this site that contains every bit of information on anything ever made by weber here:

http://www.luvtruck.com/pdf/Weber_files.exe

Just right-click and save that link to your hard-drive, then once it's downloaded you can double-click on it and it will unzip into a folder full of .pdf files on your hard drive that you can open in adobe reader.

Good luck and happy hunting!

You mentioned EGR. Disconnect the hose from the EGR valve itself, (under the carb and intake manifold), and plug the open hose with a bolt or something. Drive the truck for several days and see if anything improves. These can stick open and cause erratic operation.

Little did I know there is an import parts store here is springfield and I went in and talked to him and he said the same thing. Imagine that. his price is $325 for the 32/36 kit. you'll have to forgive me for a stupid question here, but i'm carb ignorant. with the webers on ebay will any 32/36 dgev work or does it have to be specificialy for a luv/isuzu? Thanks for all of your help.

Any will work, you will just need the luv adaptor, and even the adaptor will fill all kinds of vehicles... Weber goes from $25 used wrecking yard core to $400
I have never paid mor then $25 for the three i have had and only one of them i rebuilt... the one on my truck i took off a mazda B2000 and have run it for about a year and a half now with no problems

most likely will cure your problem... sounds like a similar issue i had with an el camino once... would start up and run fine one day and then the next day it would run like crap... i switched out the stock quadrajet for a 650 holley and all was well...

Be careful when you put the adapter plate and the base plate on. I had a dum ass moment and tried 2 tighten the bolts to tight and broke my adapter plate.Part of it was the bolts were to tight but what finished breakin it was I got in a hurry and put the adapter plate on before I put the studs in the adapter plate. If you will put them in before hand you can look at the bottom and make sure you don't go past flush of the bottom. If you go past flush it will put the plate in a bind and there goes your weekend. I had to wait another week to get another shiped. Just get some medium lock tight and snug the bolts up good and then give them a little more. Just take your time putting it on.After I got my plate in the mail I slowed down and it took about a hour and I was up and runnin.

Well alright, the weber is on!!! When I ordered it i was told it would take a week to get in so i just dropped the hood on the truck and let it sit. well after a week I called and they said that it would be another 7-10 days cause they had put it on their monthly stock order. so I opened the hood back up. I took the carb off and broke out the carb/choke cleaner and went to town. I put it back on and it ran great. Until monday night and it crapped out again. luckly the weber came in on tuesday. I got it on and the truck runs great. I've got better topend power and i'm going to assume better mpg. and it looks a lot damn cooler than that stock setup. Thanks again for all of your help.
