whats the highest compression youve guys seen in a 1.8?
I think it says 170 in the book, that seems like a lot. I just did a rebuild im only gettin 135, up from 90 though.

To get the correct compression you should remove all spark plugs, have a fully charged battery and have the carb at wide open throttle.

in addition to that.... its considered normal if the lowest compression reading is at least 75% of the highest reading.

I would consider 135 normal...170 seems pretty high to me for such an older engine...

but I am no 1.8 guru tho

I would consider 120-140 normal. If yours is that high it would only be---the head has been planed, much carbon build up, or your gauge is lying to you.

My 80 tests out to 195/200 across all four cylinders, but it looks like a G200 with a G180 head on it.

One other bit to make sure of when you run a compression test is that the valves should be adjusted right. That can bring your numbers way down too.
