Anyone out there build their own set of headers?

Image

I built a set of equal lengths for my 'yota and am debating on whether I want to build another set for the LUV. They're a pain in the rear but saved me a bunch of money! I just ordered up a bunch of U-bends and straight pieces from summit and went to work on them. This time I'm going to have a mandrel bender so they won't have as many welds on them. Anybody have any pics of LT headers stuffed in a LUV to give me some ideas?

There's a few pics of mine scattered in the link, a couple more maybe in the sig. thread. Don't know if it will help ya, but it's all I got. Mine have the first 3 tubes inside the frame, the rear tubes are outside the rail, and the collectors are slip on. A local shop built mine. They look like a pain, but I can get a socket and ratchet on each plug, about a ten minute plug change unless whatever engine i'm running needs to have the plugs indexed. With the set back you are going with, I'd imagine you will have to have 2 rear tubes outside the frame, at least on the drivers side. Hope this helps.

I had change a couple of the tubes on mine because I run angle plug heads and it was a VERY tedious deal. I cant imagine building a whole set.

Nothin real hard about it, it's just time consuming. But when you have too much time and too little money it's the way to go :smt023

I'm going to see if I have room to run them all outside of the frame like I did on the 'yota. We'll see though

You have any problems with the tires rubbing on them? I was looking at mine yesterday and it looks like it's gonna be pretty tight trying to squeeze all the tubes outside the 'rails

I have a set of old v-8 landcruiser conversion headers on mine, they work like a fenderwell header over the frame, and if you have the motor set back the tires miss them.

When i make a full lock to lock turn my tires will just rub them. These are 2" tubes and i have a Pinto rack-pinion steering and i have pizza cutter tires and wheels on it. But i think that if you hold the tubes against the frame you will have little problems if any.
