I think that the mirrors might be a dealer option... My parts truck has the same mirrors on it.

Yes, the mirrors are 4x4, and the boot is a 5spd boot.

Yep, all the 4x4s had that same boot. The shifter coming out of the trans is just a stub and has a larger diameter handle that slips on over it. 2WDs that part coming off the trans is solid all the way up to the handle.

You might be able to unbolt the shifter and swap the 4x shifter into a 2wd trans, though I'm not sure it is really doable without pulling the trans. Easier to change to the other boot, if you can find one that is in one piece.

An alternative would be coming up with something to fill the space, like turning a chunk of wood down so it just fits the shaft outside and the boot inside.

Sirjic, meet 800xl, he is our resident LUV expert. What he says is 99.99999999% of the time correct. Piss him off and the help stops flowing. Just FYI

Those are " below eyeline mirrors" and were a factory option on 77 thru 80 models according to my brochures. The doors are tapped for these mirrors from factory and on drivers door there are 2 stainless screws in holes to plug standard mirror mounting holes. They mount in line with original standard mirrors. There are pictures in galleries of these mounted on trucks....
