The cable I'm talking about is on the passenger side, and is inside the cab. It goes from the heater fan switch to somewhere behind the blower box. The lay of it suggests it's close to where it should be, but I couldn't find any sort of stud or lever for the cable loop to attach to.
This is sort of a standard 70's sliding heater cable, with a sheath and hardenend ends that are formed into a loop about the diameter of a pencil. It moves when I adjust the fan switch. My experience with these things is that the end keeper fell off at some point, and now the cable is just flopping around.
Hope that adds some clarity

I don't understand. I think the only thing coming from a fan switch is wires. They control the fan speeds.
The only 2 cables (like a bike brake cable) I know of would be 1 for the heat / water control, and 2 the diverter box ( controls the air flow from def., to vent, to heat.) It might be for the 2nd one I mentioned.
