Okay finally got around to getting the gas tank out of the LUV...

Easiest gas tank removal ever....

So first off, what is this? (Pic below... Located on driver side of the bed, behind a panel. 3 lines from the gas tank run to this.) Is it needed or can I bypass it?

^ I'm not sure what that is....

Anyways,

So I drained the gas out, was filthy. (Look in attached pics.)

What do you guys use when doing it yourself to clean the tank? I was thinking using a power sprayer and sticking it inside the filler neck/gauge hole and spraying it out then letting it drain, then adding some gas to it, slosh it around so it forces the water out, drain it and let it air out??

That is your fuel expansion/vapor recovery tank. One line goes to the front of the truck and connects to a solinoid. The other lines go to the fuel tank. It does nothing to remove it. If you do remove it make sure you plug the lines going to the fuel tank and get a vented cap. You will smell fuel at times with this removed.

Okay, the line that goes to the front of the truck has been removed by previous owner (and left open on the metal fitting on the tank....)

What about putting a small venting filter on the main hose?

The only reason why I'm considering removing this is because I don't want it to possibly contaminate the gas tank after its cleaned.... It was easy to remove but I only want to do it once. Looking into the fittings on this vapor tank it looks rather dirty....

FML

Tank is still dirty enough to turn the fuel filter brown after a 2-3 mile drive.

Guess I'll have to just send it to a shop or deal with having to clean the fuel filter every day...
