A Mikado was the fancy trim package. They got cloth seat, carpet, different steering wheel and shifter knobs, sliding back window, some had air conditioning. I don't know which year but some had this hideous plaid pattern on the door panels and seat. Some were fully loaded and some only had a few of the items.

The main things that all Mikado's had were the steering wheel, shifter knobs, and cloth seat, panels, and carpet.

Dam it, I paid extra for my Mikado, so lets not forget the dome light when the door opens option. Ron is correct, it was the extra bells and whistles model, the motor, running gear and body are the same. It was kinda a way for "the man" to squeeze some more money from the buyer.

also the dual horn setup and the door panels go further down the door so they could have carpeting on the bottom portion

for fun
mikado (mĭkä`dō), a former title of the emperor of Japan
..... used chiefly in the English language.

mi·ka·do (m-käd) to hear it pronounced http://education.yahoo.com/reference/di ... try/mikado
NOUN:
pl. mi·ka·dos
An emperor of Japan.

Mikado is a pick-up sticks game originating in Europe. In 1936 it was brought from Hungary to the USA and was mostly called pick-up sticks. This term is not very specific in respect to existing stick game variations. Probably the "Mikado" name was not used because it was a brand name of a game producer. The game got its name from the highest scoring (blue) stick "Mikado" (jpn. emperor, tenno). The buddhistic Chien Tung also contains a stick called "emperor".
