Does anyone know the axle measurements on the early to mid 90s ford mustang with the 8.8 rear end?

From what i've found, 86-92 mustang axles will interchange and 93-98 will interchange with differences between the GT and the Cobra. You'll need to be more specific with the year to find correct measurements.

I was looking at the summit website and saw that there are various after market axles from companies like moser etc. Then I started paying more attention to the specs I didnt look at the first time and found the lengths posted. I was hoping to get lucky and get some axles that fit a mustang and have them work in the 8.8 that I am going to install in my truck. So all in all it was a waste of time.

What are you trying to build? A stronger than stock axle assy? A totally new axle assy? It would help to see exactly what your plan is.

well what it all boils down too is that I need either one more passenger side ford exploder axle or 2 new stronger aftermarket right rear axles that fit a ford explorer. I have a ford 8.8 rear end out of a 92 explore that I am building for my LUV. I could leave it stock width and use some funky backspaced wheels or since the left rear axle is about 3 inches give or take a little have the one side of the housing cut down to use a stock length right rear axle in the left side to give me a little better choice of wheels. From what little checking around I have found in the last couple of days the ford exploder has the narrowest axles for the 8.8. I might have the info flip flopped I havent really done much with the project in a while and did all the narrowing reasearch some time ago. It all falls in place with the disc brake setup idea I posted a few months ago. All in all its kind of a long term temporary slow project. I also havent done much research on the stock explorer rear disc brake system but I am pretty sure the early model disc setup will bolt right up. The explorer disc brake setup all so acts as an axle retention set up if a c-clip happens to break or an axle lets go inside the housing. Like I said its more or less a low budget long term temporary swap that will allow me to run a 10 inch slick and be somewhat safe for running sticky tires while I gather up all the parts to set up the truck for a narrowed up nine inch. LOL I hope I gave you a pretty general idea of what I am trying to achieve.

As long as the 8.8 assy is greater than 28 spline, you can press on with the plan you have now. Assuming that the motor H.P. output isn't crazy. If you're planning to hit the track often, it might be worth spending the extra dough for some serious axle shafts. In the long run, you'll be way ahead.

Find a local machine shop that races circle track or drag. They may have a stock axle that can be machined to fit your setup. That's how i got my axle fixed up.

The 8.8 I have is out of an explorer. Just one side of the axle tube is getting a hair cut to match the other side. Like I said its a temporary sloution until I get all my parts together to do it a better way. My motor puts out somewhere around 400hp right now and the rear end that is in the truck is a nissan H-190. I broke the rear end yoke with the old tired 283 that was in the truck for 20+ years. I would just like to get something that will have a better chance of holding up so I could at least go drive it once in a while.
