i am currently looking at a 1973 GMC 3/4 ton pickup, with the stock rebuilt 350, and 3spd hydramatic tranny, which the seller informed me has seen better days and is gunna go soon......

soo if i get this truck i would like to swap trannys......would a 4spd from another chevy/GMC work, or what is my best bet? If so what years of truck would i look for and what all would i need to complete this swap.

and any idea on how much it is gunna cost roughly would help greatly as well!!

thanks

yeah, i would like a 4 spd manual, but i am thinking that it would be a lil more cutting and whatnot than i feel comfortable. So i was looking into autos....

another question, does changing the tranny require you to swap the transfer case or any other 4x4 parts?

well you might look for a 5 speed manual. there was a few trucks that came stock with the 5 speed. i think they are the same length.
is it a 2 or 4wd?

just my 2 cents, if you are gonna go with a auto i sugest the 700r4, my dad is putting one in our 76 k5 blazer, our 700r4 is ther version with the electronic torque coverter lock up do to the fact that the blazer has T.P.I. off of a 86 z28 camaro, but thats my 2 cents
