this cash for clunkers thing just makes me sick to my stomach
yes that was a corvette not a fan of them but there was nothing wrong with that one could have been sold or donated, also did you see the blazer and the explorer on either side of them?
what about the guy that needs a car to get to work or find a job but cant afford one? wouldnt those be fitting for that?
there is a dealer here that has a full size bronco that they put up on the display rack out front that they spray painted all over it "cash for clunkers" and stuff along those lines, lets see they have to be driven to the dealer so why not have the dealer get them checked out and donate the ones that are in decent shape to families that are in need? then the dealer would get a nice tax write off too.

sorry this whole thing just pi$$e$ me off i just thank god that i love vehicles from the 60's and 70's and they dont qualify! :ewink

ok ill get off the soapbox now, next person in line please......

I agree . I went to the local recycle yard the other day and they had 4 of these c4c cars in there 3 of the 4 were nice and i mean really nice . These cars could have changed a single mothers life . 99 suburban all leather, dual air , vortec 350 , cd player all power , 83000 miles . Nice vehicle now scrap . One was a Jeep Cherokee ( boxy one ) town and country package . All leather . New Michilens . Not my style but still a nice car . I prolly wouldn't have givin $3500 for either one , but they where nice .

I have thought the program was a dumbass idea since first hearing about it. Wow, it seems like some pretty decent vehicles are getting destroyed for no apparent legitimate reason. Well, alot of people voted for change, this is definitely a change.

Not a big fan of Corvettes either but that is way too sad. I live right next door to a Chevy dealer and they have a lot of clunker in back. A couple are nicer than what I drive!!

What were they doing to that car anyways?

Yeah I live near a VW dealership, they have a lot of clunkers in back too. Some of them are pieces of crap, some are probably fine. I say if you personally can make a buck off trading in your clunker, what the hell. I might have Clunked my GMC if it were a newer one because how the hell else would I get $4500 for it (Would have clunked it on a new Aveo, then sold my old Aveo for 2 or 3 g's and then had a brand new car for about 5 g's). Nobody wanted it when it was on sale for $3000! But I do agree that I hate to see cars getting crushed for the sake of fuel efficiency. Now I think I'm going to go try and order one or two of those "hybrid" badges and stick it on the LUV just to F with people. You know they have a "hybrids only" parking space at the grocery store now. :smt078

I think the entire program is assanigned (sp). Just another way of our leadership giving someone something for nothing or at the least very little. Why not buy a car off Craigslist for a few hundred bucks and Clunk it? I'm sure alot of people did. This program isn't much different than all the law practices we see on TV advertising how they can get you out of paying your back taxes. I pay all my damn taxes and those crooked basta@#$ should be shot. We aren't headed for trouble, we are already there...just don't realize it yet. Can we survive another three and a half years and still recover?

If it's your money already because you pay taxes, go get a cheap clunker, clunk it, and take your money back if you need to buy a new car. I'm just sayin. 8) That's why people should be required to pay for what they use, rather than paying taxes, and the whole F'ing system would be fixed. Need a car, buy one. Need a house, buy one. Can't afford a house, rent it. Can't afford a new car, buy a used one. Don't send your kids to public school? Forget paying property taxes. If Californians had to actually pay to send their kids to school they might actually give a crap about the quality of their teachers. The communities that have good ones are lucky but I'll tell you right now I'll never send my kids to LAUSD.

OK, I'm off the soap box. Next?

The car/truck had to registered and licensed by the owner for at least 1 year. Otherwise I bet there would be alot more clunkers!!

I have seen those go for over $3500 as basket cases.

I bought a $100.00 VW rabbit from a guy who's son went to college in it... Rough, but even the a/c worked. I drove it for over 3 years. Got my moneys worth

There is a Dodge Van for sale up the block, $1800 obo. Buy it for $1000 trade it and be ahead $3500.

The Vette engine would have been a good swap in a Luv.... Way too many good cars and trucks swapped in on this $hit

What the hell is wrong with our government?? My daughter's great-great grandchilden will still be paying for this program. Billion and billions of dollars to bail out the banks and the auto industry, but what about Joe and Jane Lunchpail who have lost their jobs, can't find another one, can't pay their bills or feed their kids and are losing their house to foreclosure? Does no one give a damn about them any more? No one gives a shit that the car dearlership down the street is still open if they don't have a job and can't put food on the table!
All of those cars could have gone to people who needed transportation to look for a job or to go to a job, but noooo...
In my neck of the woods some dumbass clunked a Maserati with only 15k on it!!

I don't want to piss people off, but it is the auto unions and other things, damn AIG and others..... Let them fail or make it on there own.

I have owned GM cars and trucks all my life. A few Dodges and Fords too. Chevys, Olds and Pontiac, with Pontiac's being my favorite, being my first real car was one, and my first real job was at a Pontiac dealer. I learned to turn wrenches there. Went on to be a mechanic at several dealers, including the Largest one in Houston.

I Don't like the program, and from what I have seen locally it is up to the dealer to decide if the "clunker" go's to the shredder/smasher etcc.. or it can be sold to a used parts dealer/wrecking yard. (after seizing the engine) I read in my local paper that one of the yards here in town is just drooling over picking up these "clunkers" Can you say CHA-CHING $$$$$$$$$$ for them!

As far as that c-vett, Who in their right mind would'nt want that engine/trans diff? in their luv??

They are going to recycle yards here , but alot haven't been disabled yet . around here there not killing them unless they get paid first . Also from what i hear if the person trading the car in has back taxes they are giving the buyer credit and leaving the dealer holding the bag .

I think the CARS deal was stupid for all the reasons already stated, but if it would have suited me, I would have used it myself.

Wasn't that Corvette worth more that $4500 if sold or traded in? Maybe not, but I'm thinking this guy ripped himself off by only getting $4500 for his vette.
