Here's my introduction...
My name is Ben and I just bought a 1975 Luv. The whole idea started about six months ago when Ben (coworker) and I wanted to build an engine and build a truck. He owns a 1966 Mustang with a 289 so he knows what hes doing, sort of  , and he has sources that have invaluable information/experience on cars. A long time ago my uncle gave me a 1978 Datsun 620. The plan was to fix it up to be my first truck. Well at the time I didn't know a whole lot about cars and didn't really have a lot of help, or money. I had planned on putting a turbo'ed 4 cylinder or an import V6. Since I live in the "clean" air of California I couldn't do any engine modifications because of the wonderful SMOG :!:
So coming to the present... Now we want to build a 383ci and throw it into the LUV. People keep telling me that this is going to be a money pit but I truly believe that the learning of how to build and fabricate and all the other wonderful stuff that involves grease is more valuable than the money put into it.
So the plan as it stands now is:
1. Tow truck from Elk Grove on Friday morning
2. Build 383
3. Install 9 inch
4. ROAST Tires!

Thats what I've got to say. Can't wait for the wrenching to begin. I truly am super glad that I found this website. It has already proven invaluable with just looking around seeing if what I want to do is feasible.
More to come...
Ben

Where in Ca, I am in Camarillo and have 2 LUV's, 1 with a 4.3 and a second with a small block, both with 9" rears if you want to have a look.

First off, thanks for the warm welcome. I will definitely post pictures as the build progresses.
Second, yes the "measure twice, cut once" is a value that my father pounded into me from the beginning! I took shop classes all through high school and I found this to be very helpful to not screw up a project.
Thirdly, I was looking at Old Rob's engine mounts and will have to hit him up for those.

I live in Colfax, about an hour south, along I-80, of Lake Tahoe. Camarillo might be a little far... But if I take another trip down to San Luis Obispo to visit Cal Poly again I will have to see what you got down there... I'm studying to be a mechanical engineer so you can see why I love cars. Just knowing about how something works is so much fun and interesting!

Catch you guys later,
Ben

Welcome. Cool, my Dad lives in Grass Valley. I have quite a bit of family up that way.
We have a couple members up there also, 1 in Auburn, and I think Roseville or something. But they aren't on here much.
